Overview:
Our client, a prestigious ten year old private school located in the New York area, is seeking an IB Coordinator to manage its Middle Years Program. The school, which melds the IB program with its Montessori foundation, has grown continuously over the last ten years and is one the few schools in the tri-state area authorized as an IB World School for the MYP. The school, serves 200+ students ranging from age 2 through Middle School, is located in a modern facility on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River with views of lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. Students and staff are culturally diverse, reflecting the neighborhood population. It is readily accessible from Manhattan and other parts of New Jersey by all modes of transportation, including PATH, light rail, ferry and water taxi. Position Title:
IB MYP Coordinator
This is a senior staff position. If selected, you will be an important part of an exceptional educational institution that has achieved and continues to achieve considerable milestones. You will be responsible for understanding the IB mission and philosophy through the MYP framework, working with the Head of School, peers, staff and faculty to continue to develop the MYP as a relevant and dynamic approach to teaching and learning.
Responsibilities:
Serve as IB MYP Program Coordinator, managing MYP administration, staffing, curriculum development, professional development, resource management, and communication.
Serve additionally as Coordinator for the school’s Upper Elementary Program for 4th and 5th Grade, which the school views as a “pre-IB” program, to ensure that student development in this age group is consistent with the foundation for a successful transition into the MYP.
Keep abreast of developments in the IB and incorporate best practices of inquiry, action and reflection into the written, taught and assessed curriculum.
Coordinate multi-level teaching staff to ensure cross-curricular integration of curriculum.
Motivate principled action through community and service. Oversee the continued development of a broad and balanced written and taught curriculum to ensure continuity and quality within and across the disciplines, including:
Ø Conceptually based and contextually referenced unit design.
Ø Age-appropriate formative experiences that address the aims and objectives of the subject.
Ø Criterion-related assessments model that helps students to recognize their strengths & weakness.
Ø Alignment of MYP objectives (and their strands) with the Common Core.
Monitor and communicate significant changes to the Middle Years Program (MYP) to the Head of School, staff and school families.
· Coordinate with the Head of School on all aspects of the Middle Years Program, including student and staff development, classroom issues and needs and staffing.
· Create and maintain a budget for IB-related expenses.
· Ensure that all IB-related expenses and annual fees are paid.
· Document and maintain lists of staff who have received IB training and staff who require IB training.
· Prepare and file all paperwork necessary for staff to attend IB training.
Organize and host school visits by other IB schools or education-related groups.
· Promote awareness of IB to School parents and staff.
Position Title:
Certified Primary and Lower Elementary Montessori Teachers
Our client's expanding program is currently seeking Montessori certified teachers for ages 3-6 and 6-9 or must be enrolled in a Montessori teacher certification program.
Responsibilities:
· Maintaining the integrity and scope of the Montessori Method.
· Preparing the Montessori classroom environment to meet individual student needs and interests
· Meeting regularly with students to work with them in assessing their own success and facilitating an individual path of progress
· Maintaining student records, reports, evaluations, inventories and tests
· Understanding and promoting the school’s vision, mission, and goals
· Continuing professional growth and development through conferences and certification programs.
Requirements:
Ø Must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
Ø Three to five years teaching experience
Ø Qualified Montessori Certification
Ø Positive communication style with students, co-teachers and parents.
Ø Must be dedicated with the ability to work in teams.
